WELCOME
My name is VAL CARR, photographer • artist • educator
With a lifelong passion for the arts and a deep-rooted commitment to creative education, I bring years of experience in both professional artistry and arts instruction. As a portrait photographer at Urban Couture Photography, located in Mainframe Studios, I capture the essence of individuals through visual storytelling.
My background in the arts runs deep — I hold a degree in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, and I have a strong foundation in arts education having been enrolled in the Art Ed program at Iowa State University. I have spent my life immersed in creative expression. Beyond photography, I have developed and led numerous programs designed to inspire young artists. I created and directed the Summer Arts Program for the City of Windsor Heights for seven years, taught after-school art at the Des Moines Social Club, and ran the Young Artist Studio during the summer.
Additionally, my 20+ years as the owner of a fresh floral event company, serving over 200 brides and corporate clients, has given me extensive experience in design, craftsmanship, and creative entrepreneurship. As a mother of four children who have gone through the DMPS school system, I understand the importance of fostering creativity in young minds and providing them with a space to explore, express, and develop confidence in their artistic abilities.
Art isn’t just something I do—it’s who I am. My goal is to cultivate an inspiring, hands-on learning environment where young artists can experiment, take creative risks, and develop their unique artistic voices. And have fun doing it! I hope you'll join me!
